Here’s a photo organizing project you can do this weekend! I promise you, this one isn’t so difficult once you get started 🙂
Let’s talk about the pictures from your first digital camera, your 2011 cell phone pictures, those ones you have on a disk and the flash drive you have somewhere too… Wouldn’t it be great to have them all in one location! That’s something you can get started on today.
Here are the steps and all of the products I suggest to easily accomplish that task!
Gather – Collect all of your digital media. Gather everything from the old cds to the flash drives and old memory cards.
Select their final location – Once everything is in one place let’s determine where it will all be collected to. You will need a computer, but I don’t advise actually storing these pictures on your computer. It’s best to have an external hard drive connected to your computer. I suggest having one hard drive that is dedicated to all of your photos. From vintage family pictures to 2024 cell phone pictures, ideally having them all in one place is the goal. Here are hard drives that I suggest:
Once you have determined WHERE the pictures will end up, now it’s time to get them there!
Determine a transfer method – Flash drives are typically pretty easy to move the pictures from one location to another since most computers have a USB drive. For CDs and memory cards you may need another device to plug into your computer to be able to view them. Here is a simple device that will allow you to open those CDs and memory cards on any computer that has a USB port.
Begin the transfer – Once you have the method to view your CD and memory card and you have the external hard drive location that will be your main photo hub, you’ll just open up the Finder on Mac or File Explorer on PC. There you can view each location and then easily copy and paste the pictures all over to the new location.
Create folders for organization – I suggest creating a folder for every year. When you copy pictures into your new location, put them into the year that they correspond with. Once you have collected and moved all of your pictures together they will be neat and organized!
And of course as always, no pictures are ever safe stored in only one location. Make sure you then get a safe backup copy of all of those digital files!
